The Interventional radiologists of the Washington Hospital Center are highly trained and skilled physicians who diagnose and treat a wide variety of conditions using minimally invasive procedures. These procedures are performed trough a tiny incision, often the size of the tip of a pen, through which small catheters, wires, and other instruments are passed under x-ray guidance to the area of interest within the body.
Interventional Radiology (IR) procedures are alternatives to more invasive surgical procedures. Most IR procedures require only local anesthesia and light sedation rather than general anesthesia that is required for conventional surgery. This allows the patient to go home the same day or the day after the procedure. Patients return to normal activities much faster than with conventional surgery.
